CYaBro
Hi,Having a problem adding new contacts in Outlook 2003 on a Windows XP Pro SP2 Acer notebook.I can go into the contacts folder and click on New and type in the first name last name etc OK but as soon as I click in the email box at the top right to type in the email address Outlook crashes out and asks to send error report to Microsoft.I have done an autoupdate for Office so all the latest patches installed.I have also done a repair & reinstall from Add/Remove programs.Everything else in Outlook, and other Office programs, is fine.Help please!CheersJust adding another note: I can click in the email field but as soon as I start typing Outlook crashes. Also noticed that the 'Suggest address' option when typing in an email address in a new message is not working even though the option is selected.Cheers! TheFlash428
This may be an irrelevant question, but were there previous versions of Office installed on this machine prior to installing 2003?I only ask because I encountered similar problems (although too long ago to remember exactly--but all the problems were in Outlook) on several machines where I had attempted to "upgrade" my version of M$ Office (Office 2K). I spent so much time to figure out what was wrong that I eventually just started from stratch (reloaded OS with fresh install of Office), which worked just fine. Basically all I could conclude was that if Office 2K3 was install fresh, it worked fine; when installed on a computer that had previously had Office 2K on installed it, Outlook crashed during various, but specific, activities. To be honest, I never tried to troubleshoot anymore than this though.Regardless, I'm affraid I don't have much of an answer to your question, but thought I could pass this experience along. CYaBro
Thanks for the reply! It is on a new Acer laptop that was a fresh install of Windows XP Pro and only ever had Office 2003 installed on it.It has been working fine for about 4-5 months then just started happening. Didn't install any new software or anything.
patsch5
Hi,I am having a very similar problem - I have an Acer 4005 Notebook which I have kept up-to-date with the latest Windows XP Professional Updates (SP2). I guess I have received an Update for Office 2003 through the Windows Update mechanism as my Outlook has behaved erratic in the last couple of days. I manuallyinstalled the Office 2003 Service Pack which came out at the end of September but that did not help. The behaviour I have is that whenever I try to type an address in the address field of a new email I want to send, I get a popup saying that Outlook ctrashed, offering to restart. It restarts quickly, but I basically cannot do anything worthwhile with Outlook at the moment.Any help would be highly appreciated,Patrick
CYaBro
Hi all,Thought I'd let you know I fixed my problem. What I did was create a new profile from the mail icon in the control panel. Then logged in as this new profile and imported, from the faulty profile's .pst file, all the emails, contacts etc.Tested new contacts and emails with this new profile and it works! So somehow the old profile got corrupted.Cheers
