DefConDelta Posted October 9, 2005 Posted October 9, 2005 My Sony MCE doesn't have an IDE cable attached to it. How do I install a secondary drive?
DefConDelta Posted October 9, 2005 Author Posted October 9, 2005 Rather I should have said my Sony Hard Drive doesn't have an IDE cable. The only IDE cable in the tower is one going from the motherboard to both dvd drives.http://photobucket.com/albums/v474/DefConDelta/Computer/
colinbate Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 The picture shows your hard disk is a sata drive (thin red cable)Your motherboard will probably have a second ide connector & another sata connector you just need the appropriate cable to connect another hard disk.Just to clarify ide cables normaly have connections for 2 drives & sata hard disks require seperate cablefir each drive.RegardsColin Bate
DefConDelta Posted October 12, 2005 Author Posted October 12, 2005 Thanks for the reply Colin! I really appreciate your answer....in that you know there are always dummies like me out there somewhere, but you treat us with respect. Once I know how to do it, then I can pass the info. on to other dummies (haha). (This was the first time I'd encountered a SATA).I think I've finally got it figured out. FIRST, since I have an extra ide ribbon and there are 2 hard drives from an older computer that I was using, that I need to extract info. from to the SATA drive. So...rather than attaching "old drive #1" and extracting, then taking it out and extracting from "old drive #2", I'll just take old drive #1 and extract to "old drive #2" on the "old Compaq" tower. Then I'll take "old drive #2" and insert it as a secondary drive in my WinMCE.I appreciate you taking the time to answer an old 56-year old female who is still trying to learn!
colinbate Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 No problem I try to help where I can.Yes your idea of copying info to one drive then to MCE PC is a good idea & will speed the transfer.I don't concider 56 to be old I am only 3 years younger than you.RegardsColin Bate
