strange probles after installing xp

Well I upgraded from 98 2nd to xp and now my cdrom drive doesnt work or the a floppy? anyone ever heard of something like this happening? both worked perfectly on 98 2nd.

I have a cdrw and it still works. but the cdrom doesnt...funny thing is its still shows up in my computer [both does] any suggestions?

You didn't do a fresh install? I doubt the hardware is to blame, and as generic as both devices are I don't think a fresh install would have that problem. Were there special motherboard drivers (like Via 4in1) or anything for the onboard controllers?
