EonDel Posted March 23, 2003 Posted March 23, 2003 Since I upgraded my main PC I have had problems with my internet connectionDetailsPC#1 XPPC#2 98SERouter: Speedstreem 2602 (2 port router)Connection: cableWhat happens is I loose any network signal after a few minutes. The only way it returns if I go to any page on the routers http config page. Once I go there the connection wakes up and is ok for a while. If I bypass the router the connection is stable.I have disabled the auto firewall setting in XP.Durring all this the two pcs remain in contact and there is no probs with the LAN connection.Any ideas?
gamehead200 Posted March 23, 2003 Posted March 23, 2003 When I connected my XP and 98 machines together, I had to disable the firewall on my XP computer so that the two computers could communicate with each other...If your router has a built-in firewall and it is enabled, keep your XP firewall disabled and you'll be fine! BTW, welcome to the board, EonDel!
zivan56 Posted March 23, 2003 Posted March 23, 2003 Upgrade your routers firmware, I had a SMC7004ABR that came with really bad firmware (it would go into sleep mode every few hours and only resetting it manually got the connection back). Now, it works perfectly after a firmware upgrade.
EonDel Posted March 24, 2003 Author Posted March 24, 2003 I have upgraded the firmware (Dec 2001) was latest. Not to thrilled about that. Dissabled the XP firewall but thedrop still happens. Gonna try another router to see if mine is shot
