Zxian Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 What are you trying to do exactly? Keep others from changing/deleting your files? You can set your "My Documents" folder to be private, thereby restricting other users from gaining access to these folders/files. You can change this setting under User Accounts in the Control Panel.
d-shade Posted September 27, 2005 Author Posted September 27, 2005 I really don't want to make my files completely private..i want them to be accessable but not be able to change or delete them..so i want to set everything on a certain drive to read-only or at least specific folders...
Zxian Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 If you're running XP Pro, you can set such permissions in the Security Tab of the folder/file properties. Add each user that you want to customize permissions and then set them accordingly.I'm not too sure if this is available in XP Home.
d-shade Posted September 29, 2005 Author Posted September 29, 2005 (edited) for some reason i can't find a security tab....I get General Sharing Customizeit would let me lock the folder but then no one is able to see it..so im lost again...wheres the information stored?maybe i can just manually edit it some how?and yes im using pro.. Zxian Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 You just need to disable Simple File Sharing. In an explorer window, go to Tools->Folder Options->View. Scroll all the way down to the bottom in the Advanced settings box, and remove the check mark beside "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)".That should get you the security tab.
