why is it that my media player suddenly stop when i play a video on a cd or even from a hard drive that makes my pc stop responding "hang" and leads me to restarting?

any help or advise are very much appreciated.

Go into add/remove programs and click on the windows setup feature. Uninstall WMP and then reinstall it. (You will need your windows disk)
