CJesson Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 OK, I am using a DOS bootdisk to boot to the network and run my unattended install off a network share. The disk I am using is Universal TCP/IP Network Bootdisk Netbootdisk. I would like to boot to the network (Done with this disk). Delete the partitions on the HD, format the HD in FAT16 to a 2 gig partition and then run winnt.exe to start the install. Doing this works now if I use a win98 floppy to fdisk then reboot and then win98 floppy to format. But I have read that you can do it over the network with diskpart. When I have tried to run it from DOS it says that it cannot be run from DOS. When I run it from a DOS window inside XP it works fine? Is there an easy way to delete the partitions, create the partition I want, format the partition of the HD over the network using DOS and without rebooting? I know I am asking alot but I think I have read here of a couple of people who do this but I would like to know how. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
Bilou_Gateux Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Not sure it can be done with standard M$ DOS tools. If you own a copy of Symantec Ghost Solution Suite (or download TrialWare version and grab the DOS gdisk.exe tool from it) You can use this command:gdisk.exe 1 /batch:gd.txtgd.txt:/del /all/cre /pri /for /ntfat16 /q
CJesson Posted September 22, 2005 Author Posted September 22, 2005 Thanks Bilou_Gateux,For the quick answer! I certainly appreciate it. I will give it a try. If anyone else has other suggestions please feel free to respond. I need all the help I can get.
CJesson Posted September 22, 2005 Author Posted September 22, 2005 Oh Bilou_Gateux will gdisk.exe work from a network share down to a PC I want to partition and format? I think that is what you are saying so pardon me for being thick but I am just checking to make sure. Hate to partition and format the server instead of the PC.
