Xp Profiles And Nt4 Logins

I currently have an XP Pro desktop that is connected to an NT4 server. My current login is always by way of loggin into the NT domain. I want to remove the NT4 server and STILL be able to get into my XP profile/desktop. Several months ago, I brought the NT server down and re-installed NT4 on it ( a different issue). When I tried to re-connect the XP machine afterwards it, of course, didn't recognize the new NT server ( even though the domain name and all hardward names were the same ). The bottom line is I totally lost my entire desktop and profile and spent about a week re-creating and installing some items that were profile specific.

As a pre-emptive strike... Is there some way to keep my current desktop/profile and yet disable the dependancy upon the NT4 login - BEFORE I take down the server and am lost forever?

I really appreciate any help on this?

I am not too sure, as my networking is rusty but...

Can you make the profile on the Xp wrokstation a local profile only? I do not believe that the domain profile will be used unless it could be drawn out from the cached domain profile..if it were cached at all. My only suggestion would be to make that user a "user" on that workstation under XP and then modify the user's rights using the administration console. If they require permissions that were granted to them under the domain profile, and cannot login to the domain....I don't think those rights will be allowed.

Again my skills have rusted a bit, but I think it works something along these lines.
