Diehardcamper Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 OK--I know this might be a super simple solution for most of you who use this forum but for most of us, stuff like this is confusing. I am trying to disable certain items on my MSCONFIG to increase my start up speed. If I disable everything, certain programs won't run. If I keep everything enabled, the start up is super slow. Brand spankin' new laptop. What can I disable and what do I have to keep enabled?I have heard both: disable everything and some say to keep certain things enabled? Can anybody make this simple to understand?Thank you!
jbm Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 (edited) It depends on what you have installed. What I mean by that is, its theprogram being installed that puts the entries in msconfig startup. Most of the time I've found that most can be disabled without problems. In the services tab check hide microsoft services, again I've found mostof those left can be disabled without problems, but it depends on the programthat installed them. You'll have to either do a little trouble shootingby disabling everything then finding what doesn't work and reenablingitems until you find the one that needs to be enabledOr you could post what programs don't work and what you've disabled andsomeone that runs the same program could help. prathapml Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Or maybe post a list of all the items in your "startup" tab, and we could tell which ones are not needed for sure.
