"Hacking" the .bkf file

Is there a way (or utility) to extract specific files from an XP backup onto another PC besides the original? Long story short user backed up PC onto a thumb/flash drive. Goes to another house in another state and wants files off thumb drive extracted to different computer.

AFAIK all you need to do is run Windows Backup and extract to a folder.

Did I mention she's attempting this on a MAC and forgot to mention it to me?
