Help! Sata HDD Reboots System

Recommended Posts

If anyone could help me. I will thanks.

About one month ago my HDD Sata (Barracuda ST380023AS) stop booting. After the winXP boot screen the system reboots. If I start in the mode "not reboot on system errors" he stop in a blue screen for safety reasons, indicating VIAMRAID:SYS Problem.

If I try to boot from a working perfect IDE HDD with the SATA HDD attached the system reboots again.

By the way the MBoard is a ASRock P4VM8 and the firmware is Updated.

I Think the Sata Raid drive have got a virus.

The problem is to gain access to the disk.

Any help is welcome.

Thanks.

What version of XP are we talking about here? SP2?

The problem is that older VIA chipsets need a driver to work with SATA. The drive isn’t damaged and data is still on the disk. I would reinstall windows, download and install the newest VIA drivers and see if it helped...

For sure it’s NOT a hardware problem…

Yes SP2. Why would the driver stop working all of a sudden?

Something must have messed up the driver, the only way now is to reinstall Windows when "last known good" and "safe mode" don’t work any more...
