Aaron_ Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Hello people!I have a problem while trying to delete some empty folders in "program files". They are installed with windows installation but they're empty.I can delete them with unlocker but winlogon.exe is the process which uses them and at restart they are created again. I repeat, they're empty and have nothing to do with windows core.Is there any way to avoid winlogon of creating them??Thx
Aaron_ Posted August 8, 2005 Author Posted August 8, 2005 @boooggy:SFC is already disabled. But the problem persists.Any more ideas? someone?
Aaron_ Posted August 8, 2005 Author Posted August 8, 2005 @army20:I don't want to hide them (that would be the easy solution) cause I have windows the way I like it, (unattended, reg tweaks and all the story....you know) and I don't have hidden folders, I like to see and have control of everything. The folders are:Program files/microsoft frontpageProgram files/msn gaming zoneProgram files/netmeetingProgram files/outlook expressProgram files/xeroxIf I delete them, at restart they are created again.I just want to get rid of these annoying empty folders.
boooggy Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 (edited) ok if u have wfp off then go to system 32>dllcache and erase everything....or even better try nlite..... Edited August 8, 2005 by boooggy
Aaron_ Posted August 8, 2005 Author Posted August 8, 2005 The dllcache thing don't work. I emptyed it too before asking.I will keep thinking about it.
fdv Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 Hey, I know this does not answer the question, but it will answer WHY this is happening.A DLL that is on the system keeps creating these folders. For example, have a look at the Windows 2000 versions of two DLLs here. The Internet Cache folders kept getting created in this case until I gutted the REGINST sections. Now, I can't tell you which DLLs are doing this in XP, because I don't know, but I would suggest getting Resource Hacker and going through ones you suspect (the core DLLs of the OS).Hope this puts you on the right track at least, and sorry I can't answer specifically.
Aaron_ Posted August 9, 2005 Author Posted August 9, 2005 @fdv:I have used resource hacker and PEexplorer in some dlls but with no luck.Maybe you can tell me which dlls have REGINST section to go direct to them.Thx
Aaron_ Posted August 9, 2005 Author Posted August 9, 2005 Solved! It was a "system file protection" problem.I got two reg tweaks from the forum to disable it, but they were wrong and it didn't work. Now I have found the correct one.Thx to all who tried to help.
