realized Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 (edited) I am now realizing that when a user moves pc's, its not productive to need to copy his data over from one machine to another. I want to start using roaming profiles.I created a share d:\profiles\user1, only user1 and admin have FULL control of that folder, no users have any control.I setup under profiles tab under AD users and computers, that its profile path should be \\computername\profiles\user1 (i can access this share remotly, its setup corectly)So now nothing happens, i log in/out of the domain, my directory is empty, i read someplace that i need to COPY over my current profile over to the server (from my computer -> properties -> advanced -> User profiles/settings.When i select MY profile, the DELETE and COPY TO options are greyed out, the other profiles are NOT!When i goto CHANGE TYPE - the ROAMING option is also greyed out !!!** YES I HAVE RESTARTED , AND LOGGED IN AS ANOTHER USER (LOCAL/DOMAIN ADMIN) - STILL GREYED OUT **ANy ideas here? Is this the next step to make my profile roaming (once i get this setup i can apply it to the entire network one by one..)-realized Edited August 5, 2005 by realized
realized Posted August 5, 2005 Author Posted August 5, 2005 Figured it out, i think. Default you can't have roaming profiles for domain admins. DUH!My second problem was permissions with the folder, i need to give EVERYBODY full control , then limit everything via ntfs permissions (only user has access to their profile directory)I logged into a pc as a user, logged out, took for ever!! now the profile is copied !!TIME TO LEARN FOLDER REDIRECTION NOW!
