Dollarius
Hi there. I'm a common user and I've decided to try the beta 1 of win vista codename LongHorn.I've an Asus P5GD2 motherboard with a special ite/sata controller (that admit raid configuration, but i don't use it). When time ago I installed windows xp on my pc, was a bit difficult, cause the win setup doesn't recognize my disk (I've booted from cdrom). After many days, I've finally installed win xp by loading the driver for the controller Ite from a floppy disk, so the setup recognized my disk and the installation worked correctly. Now I tryed to run the Vista setup booting from cdrom (cause the hard disk where I want to install the beta is empty) it loaded...but when it asked me in which partition/disk i want to install the beta, it doesn't recognize my disk, like with xp setup. So I clicked on "load driver" button, inserted the floppy with xp drivers, but the setup noticed me that didn't find a driver...What can I do?Does exist a driver for the Ite controller of my Asus motherboard that is compatible with win longhorn?Or there is another way I can try installing this beta, like bootstrapping from a dos floppy disk? Please Help Me! Dollarius
OOOOOOOOH! Finally I've installed Win LongHorn on my pc! It looks great and is stable enough (for the moment, it never crashed and seems to run fast)!I've encountered lots of problems during setup because the installer is a bit stupid and didn't load my drivers from floppy only because they're in a folder and not in the root....So I created another floppy with drivers in the root and it worked. The installation worked good, but when was nearly finished, the setup said that it was corrupted and I have had to reinstall windows from the beginning. The second time all worked correctly (even if before the installation started, the setup blocked 2 or 3 times...) and now I've Win LongHorn installed.I thought to see more news from xp, but the work of microsoft looks good. Now the problem is that lots of application doesn't run under this new os. I tryed the program compatibility wizard, wich looks useful, cause lets setups of old programs to run, but, e.g. in the case of Mcafee AntiVirus, after the installation I've not succeded to let it run normally, cause it always say me that the os is unrecognized....So, They have still much things to do, but they are at a good point Edited August 2, 2005 by Dollarius
