Hot plug a harddisk, is this possible ?!?!

I haved a removable harddisk rack (ViPower), with a harddisk installed in it but not plugged always.

i knew that there exists a tools called SwapManager that allows hot-swap of harddisks without restarting windows, but i've never used it.

but now I tried to put in the harddisk and switch on the rack, then in Device manager I made a Refresh hardware, seconds later the hard disk is there, I can see it's drive letter, and read the files.

How is this possible ??

btw: i have a quite an old motherboard, Asus A7V133.

simple, it is like you connect an usb flash memory stick, for windows is a bit the same

but be careful, doin' something like this you can very badly damage your computer. a HDD consume about 2A (I think its more) when powerin' up and if you have an old or not strong enough power supply, then you can overload it and mobo can be burned.

I use all types of vipower drives. When pulling out them always make sure no processes are using them. I would disable in device manager 1st. Putting in is a lot quicker. But once I did get a bsod. ALso never pull out the boot device.
