Marthax Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 Greetings!I've looked at two topics regarding floppy disk, but both of these topics show how to disable the floppy disk. What I would like to do is to remove it completely from My computer, shell extension etc meaning that you cannot select it at all or somehow work with it. Is it possible? Thanks in advance!Marthax
dman Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 In BIOS set floppy to "None". It will be like it's not even there.
InTheWayBoy Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 Same thing I was gonna say...sometimes you have to disable the floppy disk controller as well, but same idea.
svasutin Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 For some reason, however, some BIOS's have faulty info and XP detects the presence of a floppy controller.Hence, even if you disable the floppy in the BIOS, you still might need to check your device manager. Here are a few things that might help with the issue:As stated before, select NONE/Disabled for the floppySet PnpOs to NoDisable and Floppy Boot Options (Check removable sub menus also).Boot Floppy Seek to NoI've found on some systems, using the above four has prevented XP from seeing the drive.
Thinkster Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 Or you could physically remove the drive from the computer or disconnect the ribbon cable...
svasutin Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 Merely unplugging and removing cables does not always work. None of my systems have floppy drives, therefore no cables, and all references to the BIOS are disabled, and still XP shows the device
Marthax Posted July 17, 2005 Author Posted July 17, 2005 Yeah, i don't even have a floppy and it shows up in Windows, but not any more! I fixed it using BIOS and it works. Thanks again!
