senn Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 I am quite amazed at the news that Veritas requires SQL 2000 MSDE be installed with its new product, Backup Exec 9.0. How can they justify this huge leap? I'm sure that this makes the product much more functional, but it is not an option - it is required! What about a server already running SQL 6.5 or 7.0? What about a server running older versions of Oracle? What about servers running applications that require older versions of MDAC? What about the added overhead involved in running the SQL 2000 Engine?Does this bother anyone else?Jonathan
XPerties Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 well of course this bothers me. Im sick of companys requiring users to upgrade or have special features making you upgrade or spending more money. Ive used Backup Exec in the past and have 2 copies but havent tried the new version yet.
senn Posted February 5, 2003 Author Posted February 5, 2003 Grrrr... Now Veritas is saying 9.0 will not support ANY MDAC version besides 2.6 sp2. Not even SQL 2000 SP3 (which installs MDAC 2.7 sp1). Very dissappointing . We are looking for another product.Jonathan
Drewdatrip Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Thats really too bad..from the review i read here at MSFN...the app looked really nice...shame its hoaving incompadibilty issues...=Drew
