"System Tray Icons Gone!"

Okay, so I just did a rebuild. Anyway, now none of my system tray icons will appear. When I go to Taskbar and Start Menu settings Hide Inactive Icons is all grayed out. How the heck did this happen. It's as if the system tray icons have been disabled. Is their anyway to re-enable them without a rebuild again!?! Thanks!

Do you have XP Pro?

If you do, check under the Group Policy editor

User Configuration->Administrative Templates->Start Menu and Taskbar

Set the value for Hide the notification area to disabled.

I've found that if the policy changes are made by other means (not via GP Editor) then the settings would not necessarily show up there. So it's worth doing the same again in GP editor just to make sure the restriction is lifted.
