hermhart
This is a strange one, and it started happening yesterday, but I did not perform any change to my system, so I do not understand as to why this would happen.1) In DOS window I can ping yahoo.com and google.com- it works fine, I get replies, no packet loss - so DNS etc is working.2) I am able to transfer files between shared folder on Laptop and Desktop.3) Laptop does have email and browser access without any problem4) I have turned off the firewall, and both the laptop and desktop are behind the same router. So, I think my desktop NIC card, cable, router, cable modem - all are fine. The PROBLEM: From my desktop, I can not access internet for email or browsing. Ping does work but browsers crash. It appears that TCP based protocols are blocked. There is nothing suspicious in Task List.Thought it might be the winsock, so I netsh'd it, but that didn't help either. If anyone can help me on this, I would highly appreciate it.Thank you... Aegis
Do you have a firewall blocking your browser application?
hermhart
As a test I turned off the firewall. So, no, it should be free and clear to send and receive.

dman
Have you tried "repair" option from the network connections menu?If that doesn't work try WinsockXPFix Edited June 26, 2005 by dman
hermhart
If you are referring to Internet Explorer. It does give a version number.
hermhart
I did try the "repair" item a few times, and also did the "netsh winsock reset". Neither of them did anything.
dman
try winsockxpfix. It corrects some problems that netsh command alone does not.

WTS
Maybe take a look and make sure your default gateway is set to your router(provided you have one)

dman
do you have a bartPE disk. If you can boot from that and access the net you can rule out hardware.maybe time to try "system restore" (if you didn't disable it) Edited June 26, 2005 by dman
hermhart
Seems to be set correctly.
hermhart
I do not have a bartPE disk, but I'm quite sure that it is not hardware since I am able to ping out with no problem, it's just browsing and IM's, etc.I did also try a system restore from two days ago, and no luck there either. fifogigo
Have you by any chance tried using a different web browser to check whether this is a problem with IE itself or Windows?
