Internet Connection

Hello all

I'm a new user of this forum.

I'm running Server 2003 Enterprise. And have very little experence with this version of server.

What I'm wanting to do is quite simply setup my server to allow the local network xp clients to access the web. I've spent the last several hours trying to find information on how to do this. After 20 years of working with computers I'm sure the solution to what I'm looking for is so simple I'm just overlooking it.

This is a home network. And in time I want to be able to restrict specific machines from getting to the web. But currently I'd be happy to just get them so they can.

If anyone has information to share on how to achieve this would be greatly apprecitave.

The "best" way to do this would be to install some "Proxy" software, either on a separate server or on your main server. You can then configure your clients to access the Internet via the Proxy Server. If you have a home Router then the solution is trivial, just set the Default Gateway of your clients to the IP address of the Router. If your Router also has DHCP, then the solution is even more trivial!

I don't see what you need to configure - how do you physically connect - router/internal card in server/?

Analogue ProxyX is an excellent tool for proxying through any machine.

The server can control who sees the net - use group policies.

Make an OU for the computers or users you wish to have no internet access, Create a new policy for that OU and edit the following: User Config. > Windows Settings > internet Explorer Maintenance > Connection > Proxy Settings > - to disable the internet put something spurious for the proxy settings.

Then disable changing proxy settings too. [user Config. > admin templates > Windows Components > IE > Disable Changing Proxy Settings]

Thanks for the assistance. The reason I'm wanting to restrict access to the web. Is first I want to learn all I can about the os and what it can / can't do. Secondly with it being a home network. I want to be able to keep my kids from getting out on the web. When there grounded.
