Active Desktop problem

Having a problem with an active desktop. I have an IBM theme running but everytime i remove all the icons from the desktop the wallpaper disappears and it becomes a grey screen. But when i put an icon back on, it comes back up. Also, whenever there are icons on the desktop, they have a solid color box around the name instead of being transparent, even though the settings are set for them to be transparent.

Are you actually using the Active desktop, or is it just on.

Active Desktop uses to much memory for my taste.... I think i had the dame problem with the icons also.
