When I receive a new email is isn't displayed until I click on my of the previously received mails (if that makes sense) which is a little annoying :(

If you are getting your email from a domain, for example MS Exchange, Go into your email account and check in the Microsoft Exchange Server account and make sure that you do not have a check mark on Use Cached Exchange Mode.
