ok sometimes when i am searching through my folder. i go to click on the next folder explorer just about locks up meaning i can't bring up start menu nor click anything in my toolbar or taskbar. my HDD activity light lightd up like the fourth of july and sometimes it completly locks my pc up but everything still runs. this suaulyl happens for a few minutes. I am Also runnign windows pro pro sp2. i NEVER had this problem with windows xp Home sp1.

You may have Spyware/virus problems.

Also, make sure you're fully up-to-date with Windows patches, hotfixes and updates.

Try a system cleaning program like CCleaner and registry optimising programs like ERUNT.

Keeping a system healthy is a big help towards a happy system :)

ok.... try the MS one [after install, update it and then run a full scan] and use SpywareBlaster (if you dont already).

Also, keep all the antispyware programs updated too (i know its obvious but best mention it too) as spyware is more of a problem than anything else these days.

Is XP Pro SP2 an upgrade on top of XP Home SP1 (just to gain a bit more info)?

Try and tell us as much as you can regarding the issue you have too - althought seaching through folders is gonna be difficult to expand upon of course lol

But info regarding is it a custom built install or is it from a company? ...etc

well i did reformat before i isntalled windows Xp pro sp2. so i got rid fo home sp1. then norton partition magtic 8.05 refuses to load window after i made a partition (i have no clue why) so i did a reinstall and stuff.

the cd NMAy have been slipstreamed am not totally sure. not sure if that would be a factor. my pc is an eck-machine a

ram i am running a pc3100 512 thou my board is only pc2100 btu that never gave me any problems bu searching ok i will try

pretend you are looking in your folder looking for a spciefic file or folder withint it. but when you go to click on another folder to bring it up it just basically doesn't load but your pc tells you that it is working to get that folder open.
