brian873 Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 I have got all my music ready to move to a new drive I bought to store it on. I was wondering would there be any advantage to use another setting for the Allocation Size, instead of the default option ?220 GB of musicAverage file size 4mb250 GB DiskThanks for the advice !Hail Hail
raskren Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Nope, optimal size is calculated automatically based on the size of the disk. Also, think about what you're doing here - streaming music from a local hard drive at relatively low bit rates. Even if you were to benchmark the thing to death to get a few more MB/s, does it matter?
brian873 Posted May 9, 2005 Author Posted May 9, 2005 Thanks raskren -Perfomance was never really in my thoughts, it was more if the allocation size was bigger would it take longer for the disk to fragment and reduce the chance of data loss with so many files.hail hail
