albedoConsulting
I have a client with a Win98 machine that sometimes randomly restarts, sometimes crashes an app but allows a save, sometimes crashes an app but doesn't allow a save, etc. All very random. My thought is to test the CPU, memory, and perhaps the power supply. Thus, does anyone have a suggestion for a good RAM & CPU burn in/test app? I would like to at least try to isolate the problem before I suggest the machine go to the LCS to have a multimeter put on the PSU.Best,Gordon
azagahl
I strongly recommend using the Prime95 torture test. Be sure to use Advanced options and set the Priority to maximum. (You have to use password 9876 to do this.)Another good tool to try is superpi (super_pi.zip)Some people like memtest86 but it didn't help with my bad memory chips at all. oneless
Some people like memtest86 but it didn't help with my bad memory chips at all.For me , if memtest find some errors , then the memories are bad.if don’t find , isn’t relevant , the memories can be god or bad.The great test for a machine but most for memories is a complete install of XP without errors . with bad memories is possible to install successfully W98SE on a machine , but no with XP .
