When you say it got turned off, do you mean that it isn't the default open with handler (isn't the program which runs when you double-click the file)? Can you still run it by right-clicking and selecting "Open With >" or "Open With..."

do you get anything instead of it now?

when installing certain versions of microsoft office, it gets turned off if you install certain components of office - namely Microsoft Photo Editor.

If you right-click a image that you want reassociated to it, you can follow this to (maybe) sort out the problem:

- Right click image file

- Choose [Open With] > [Choose Program...]

- From the list that appears, find and highlight [Windows Picture and Fax Viewer]

- Tick the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"

And repeat the process for each image format you want associated to this viewer.

Unless the program has vanished or become corrupt somehow, you should be good to go.

Even if a virus made this happen, this should still cure it but make sure all traces of the virus has gone before repairing your system.

Run "regsvr32 shimgvw.dll" without the quotes. Post here if you get any error.

What version of Windows do you have?
