HighterDK Posted April 30, 2005 Posted April 30, 2005 Here is the thing: I have my computer on Dual Boot, Windows XP and Linux, using GRUB (a linux bootloader) and both OS were installed on the single 120GB Sata HD. I installed a spare IDE HD I had, moved some data from the windows partition to it, and procedded to format it. Installation went smoothly, and, as expect, windows installed it's own bootloader, and I lost my ability to boot linux, but no problem. After moving the data back to I removed the IDE HD and had the unpleasant surprise to see Grub was back in place...For some reason I don't know, windows installed itself in the SATA HD, like I wanted, but installed it's bootloader in the IDE HD. Is there a way to make my windows install work again, without having to do a full reinstall?
boooggy Posted April 30, 2005 Posted April 30, 2005 boot with the xp cd and choose repair. then in the command line type delete mbr and then create mbr. i am not sure that's the right commands but u can use the help from the xp cd.
HighterDK Posted April 30, 2005 Author Posted April 30, 2005 Another weird thing... my windows cd doesn't boot unless I have the IDE HD installed. I mean, it doesn't even get to the blue screen where it loads drivers.... It is was slipstreamed by me to include SP2 and the sata driver...
boooggy Posted April 30, 2005 Posted April 30, 2005 then make a floppy disk to load the sata drivers when setup says press f6 button.... and try that way.
HighterDK Posted May 1, 2005 Author Posted May 1, 2005 Is there a way to do that using a pen drive or another type of mass storage? I know my mobo supports booting from it.
