how do i specify where to store temp install files

im trying to install from a d drive but xp stores the temp files on the c drive which means i cant format c drive and install there.

is there a workaround for this?

figured it out myself

for the curious

just copy the temp files from c:\ to d:\ and edit the entry in boot.ini

Open the command prompt and type the new location of the temp files.

set temp=d:\temp

set tmp=d:\temp

There is also the sys properties advanced enviroment variables.

Cleanest way:

For the USER:

1. Login;

2. Right-Click My Computer->Properties

3. Advanced Tab

4. Environment Variables

5. User Variables for <username> - under here you can change where the temp files are stored

I always change the temp dir. to c:\temp instead of the silly c:\documents and settings\ etc etc

FOR THE SYSTEM:

Under System Variables of the same window:

Edit the TEMP and TMP variables to from C:\Windows (or C:\WINNT)\Temp to whatever eg. c:\temp d:\temp e:\temp etcetc
