tarquel Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 Hi allJust wondering if anyone knows why my built-in Intel Wireless/PRO 2915ABG card in my Acer TravelMate 8104WLMi laptop changes speed for no real reason.I've adjusted the settings to try and prevent it switching but to no avail. It has the latest drivers running from Acer's site - Intel's generic ones have the same driver version's too. Here are a few points to consider before replying:- The router is 2-3 meters away from the laptop and is in the same room - no walls in the way- The router is also set to 11g mode only (instead of mixed mode) too, to try and stop this - i may try the "Long Range Mixed 11b + 11g" to see if that helps but i doubt it - more router info below)- Signal strength is Excellent- Everything (except the next bulletpoint) appears to be running normal. Disabling and re-enabling doesnt make any difference.- I do get an odd download speed - its half of what i get on my desktop pc. 2M line @ 250/260KB/s - on the laptop i get about 100KB/s :SThe router model:3com OfficeConnect ADSL Wireless 11g Firewall Router (3CRWE754G72-A) running the latest firmware v1.29 (Jan 13 2005 14:18:55).I'm using "WPA-PSK (no server) - tkip" with a custom PSK.Anyone got any ideas or is it the waiting game for a better driver? Is this common? is it just one of the usual annoyances of a wireless connection?Regards,Nath.
