iexplorer.exe fails

A friend of mine has a problem with IE on his computer. Everytime he starts IE it closes after about 7seconds... The only error message is the one that apears when you start a program, it fails and you are given the oportunity to send a report... (If that made any sence.. )

Now, I'm thinking ad- og spyware or a virus... Has anyone got any other suggestions to what might cause this?

BTW, it's a Win XP with SP2 installed..

Try logging in with another account/profile (or creat a new one) to eliminate a profile problem .. at least that will narrow things down ...

If it's not a virus or spyaware try a hard ie repair then redo the updates. I see ypu have sp2. Did you do that u[date your self. If yes pull it out do a reapair then put it back in.

try reinstalling IE

u can reinstall using the inf folder which is present in %systemroot%

the complete path is %systemroot%\inf\ie

e.g c:\windows\inf\ie

right click on the file named ie and click install

inf folder is a hidden folder by default, to view it u will have to unhide it first using folder options from the tools menu

@rjz "I see ypu have sp2. Did you do that u[date your self. If yes pull it out do a reapair then put it back in." It's not my computer, so I don't know if the owner/user installed it himself.. I get the pc today (He needed it during the weekend) So I'll ask him
