Remove File permission

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am having a problem with some file permission issue.

Recently, i copied a folder from my company PC to my home PC. Previously, I had set permission on this particluar folder whereby only my company domain account can access.

I never remove the permission when I copied over to my home PC. So now when I tried to open any files under this folder, always prompt me that access is denied.

I managed to change the permission to full control for "everyone".

but it still prompt me access denied when I bootup from normal mode

Don't tell me to copy back to the company PC cos I already left the place.

So wonder is there any work around to open myfile again?

Thanks

Here's the skinny... When you copy NTFS files from one volume to another, no permissions are carried forward--especially on disconnected networks.

I'm assuming that you burned the files to a CD, USB Stick, or Floppy. Then you copied the files to your PC.

When the copy occured, permissions were inherited by the parent folder.

Here's how to get out of this.

1. Right-click the folder and select Properties

2. Select the Sharing tab

3. Select Do not share this folder

4. Select the Security tab and then Click the Advanced button

5. Click the Add button and select the user you are logged in as

6. Give this user Full Control permissions and make sure to check the box at the bottom that says, "Replace permission entries on a child objects..."

Also, you may be blocked by a Deny permission somewhere.

7. Make sure that the SYSTEM account also has Full Control

8. Remove all other accounts

Hope this helps you out

if you don't see the security tab that diggity mentioned got to

tools-> options -> view -> scroll all the way to the bottom of advanced settings and turn 'Use simple file sharing (Recommended)' off.

Then the security tab will be available when you do properties on the folder.
