At0mic
I’m using windows 2000 server. Is it possible to successfully restore a backup older than 60 days of the active directory “system state” made using the Microsoft backup program?I understand that there’s a 60 day limit to which you can restore to due to the tombstones of previously deleted objects. However, I’m thinking about putting the clock back on the server by about 6 months before restoring and then slowly putting it forward a month at a time. There aren’t any other servers in the AD of the backup so there shouldn’t be any complications in that respect.I will then add more servers to the domain afterwards.Does anybody know if this is a fool-proof plan? Thanks
tguy
Sounds like what you are wanting to try, might work but it is risky. If you haven't already done so, check out this article from MS.http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...bj_brr_VCGI.asp
DiGGiTY
This type of restore can be accomplished by modifying the tombstone lifetime attribute first. The tombstone lifetime attribute is located on the enterprise-wide DS config object. The path for this attribute is:CN=Directory Service,CN=Windows NT,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=COMPANY,DC=COMUse the ASDI and set the "tombstoneLifetime" to be older than the backup used to restore the Active Directory.
