An Xp Problem

Hi,

I have a problem in my Windows XP (Home eddition, French version). Whenever I launch a program from another program, for example:

- Clicking on a link from MS Outlook or any other program which launches Internet Explorer

- Clicking on an e-mail attachment from MS Outlook, whick launches for example Adobe Acrobat Reader or MS Excel

- ...

there is often a long delay (about 20 sec.) before the second program runs. And in this delay, even the first program stops working temporarily. Could anybody help me please?

Another problem is that, I think Windows cannot properly close the programs. Especially before shutting down the computer, it takes a long time for Windows to close them and most of the times it asks to End Task them. It may even take it a whole mintute to completely shut down the computer. What can I do?
