'98 To Xp, Still Freezing

I changed from Windows 98SE to XP and my old (4 years old) computer is still freezing up while in internet explorer. What all could cause something like this?

It is a Compaq Presario, P3 733 mhz, 256mb Nvidia GE force 5200 FX
