Audio Drivers

I recently installed XP Pro on a computer I build for my brother and I used his mobo disc which installed an audio driver. The sound was working...until he went and installed Realtek AC'97 Audio and now the sound doesn't work! I think if I uninstalled one or the other it would work. When in Add/Remove programs as I try to uninstall either one I get BSOD 'Bad_Pool_Caller'

What can I do other than reformat?

Try this:

Right-click on My Computer and left-click properties. Click on the Hardware tab and click on Device Manager. There should be a yellow explamation point next to the bad sound driver. Right-click on that and click on Properties. Click on the Driver tab and click the Update Driver button. No to Windows Update. Select Install from a specific location and then find the driver on the Motherboard disk. It may automatically recognize the old working driver as an option but to be safe you could point to the disk. That should work. No need to uninstall.
