svasutin Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Something is strange,From my winnt.sif/Unattend.txt I have Ol-E and Messenger disabled. Neither show up in my start menu. When I check the default access settings, both ol-e and messenger are unchecked (no 'enable access')From the cmdlines, I install Firefox and set it as my default browser. Here's the thing, I don't install an email client, so if I click a mailto: link, then outlook opens up, and messenger gets installed.Aside from completely erasing ol-e and messenger, is there a tweak to disable this auto turn on?
enuffsaid Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 From your topic I read "Firefox installs ol-e and msft messenger"I find that hard to believe but perhaps I'm wrong. Let me ask you this... If you were NOT to install firefox at all, and you would click a "mailto:" link, does the same happen? You also mention when you click a "mailto:" link "Outlook" opens... I take it you mean Outlook Express?Also... If you open up Internet Explorer > Tools > Options > Programs [Tab]what does it say for Email? You can set it thru the registry here:HKLM\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\HTH.
svasutin Posted February 22, 2005 Author Posted February 22, 2005 1st if i didn't install Firefox, then I would need to set ieaccess to on, which I've done since I'm testing my reg settings. As for internet properties (via control panel | internet options ), the email client is blank (for that matter so was the start menu option).I'm going to burn and reformat again to check the reg key you suggested."mailto:" link "Outlook" opens... I take it you mean Outlook Express?YesAnd by the way, Outlook Express still opensUnfortunately, I ran the test though firefox before checking the reg key. UnderHKLM\Sw\Clients\mailI have hotmail and Outlook Express sub keysBe back in a hour or twooh ya, and by the way, thank you
svasutin Posted February 22, 2005 Author Posted February 22, 2005 Well, using IE I find it also launches Outlook Express, which in turn allows Messenger to be installed.ok, now I will try to remove the hotmail and outlook express registry keys you mentioned. Will get back some time tomorrow
enuffsaid Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Ideally, what you would want to do is to set your default email program through the Internet Properties, and then Export the afore mentioned key:HKLM\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Import that during your unattended install. Do you have any other email client installed other than OE?Cheers.
svasutin Posted February 23, 2005 Author Posted February 23, 2005 Well, with the exception of removing the registry keys, nothing else worked.Do you have any other email client installed other than OE?Typically I don't install an email clientSomething else I've noticed, OE and Messenger are still unchecked in the Program Access and Defaults section, and still listed as not installed in the Windows Components Section.Even after I've attempted to send an email. As for messenger, I'm attempting to remove the Messenger from Internet Properties | Programs | Manage Add-on...Finally neither oe or wm appears in the start menuThink this qualifies as a security flaw, or just a bug?
svasutin Posted February 24, 2005 Author Posted February 24, 2005 It appears, even if i delete all the keys underSOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Outlook Express still opensI guess it is always there
