durex Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 Long shot I know... but I dont suppose anyone here has the Snapstream Firefly remote and has figured out how to silently install its software.
totoymola Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 Is there a link for the trial version?Edit: found it.Edit2: Is this correct? http://www.snapstream.com/Download/firefly/I downloaded the top most link. It is an SFX, which has three EXE files inside. The file FF_INSTALLER.exe can be installed silently with /S.I'm not sure because I dont have this hardware.
durex Posted February 5, 2005 Author Posted February 5, 2005 Yea.. I have the installer... but havent figured out how to silently install it. Ive extracted the stuff inside it, but not sure exactly how to silently install the seperate components.. or what order it needs to go in.ff_installer.exe /s doesnt install silently.. tried /qn as well.. cant tell what kind of installer it is.
totoymola Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 ff_installer.exe /s doesnt install silently.. tried /qn as well.. cant tell what kind of installer it is.Because it has to be /S, not /s. It is either NSIS or Setup Factory. Im not sure. But most likely NSIS.I think you can add that switch to the ini file.
durex Posted February 6, 2005 Author Posted February 6, 2005 Ha.. youre exactly correct! Now you also probably noticed there are 2 additional executables in that package.. "DotNetDetectComponents.exe" and "MsiWebBootStrap.exe".Im assuming the 1st simply does what its called... detects to make sure you Have .Net framwork install... which I do, so Im not worried about that. The second installer is actually what is actually called from the SFX package... it looks like its some sort of install updater, but Im not really sure... does this look familar to you in any way?
totoymola Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 Yeah. I notice that too. I don't know what exactly the purpose of MsiWebBootStrap.exe. I think it just triggers the ff_installer.exe. If that's the case, why would the developer include it to their package? Isn't it easier to execute ff_installer.exe from the sfx directly?Like I said earier, I don't have this hardware so I really don't know how it works. Why don't you try removing MsiWebBootStrap.exe, and just install from ff_installer.exe? What's gonna happen?Edit: No! I'm wrong! I think you still have to run it from MsiWebBootStrap.exe. Otherwise, other components will not be installed. But you have to edit the INI file and add the switch for the ff_installer.exe under [components], in the cmdline.
TheJerk Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 (edited) I'm curious, Durex, are you just using Firefly, or do you have other Beyond Media components? I'm in the process of trying to put together an unattended recovery disc for my HTPC and just for kicks did a search for Snapstream software in this forum. Yours is the only post with anything to do with Snapstream... Anyway, I see this thread is a little old, so I wonder... did you solve your issue? If you have the other components, did you manage to get those installed as well?Appreciate the help. LiamEDIT: D'oh!!! Just noticed the YEAR on this thread! ROFLIn that case, has anyong managed to get the Beyond Media suite installed silently? Edited February 24, 2006 by TheJerk
