The question is as the topic says

Hi All!

I currently am still using Norton antivirus 2002.

I was wondering if there was any merit over buying the newer Norton Antivirus 2005.

Thank you in advance

Thank you for your response Astalavista!

The NAV2002 that I use was inside NIS2002. Things after a while made my internet connection go to bye bye, but when I disable NIS, things go really fine.

Right now, I use a different program for firewall. I know that the easiest way is to use the NIS because it is in one package but the firewall from it makes my life harder.

Anyway, is there any difference between the NAV2002 and the NAV2005 or 2006 that is coming out? If there're any merits to buying the new one, would some one pls tell me about it?

Thank you for your reply again Astalavista and firefoxthebomb.

I would look at the comments and consider if I should buy the 2005 version or the upcoming 2006.

Hi Jamall,

The answer to this depends on what you do with your installation. If you are a version freak and want the latest version all the time, then go for NAV2006.

Otherwise, stick to 2002 itself. The newer versions has nothing useful to FORCE you to move to the new one. Some of the main new additions is:

1. Instant Messenger Protection - this is idiotic if you know what you're doing

2. Scan within compressed files on every run - slows down your PC

3. Lot of components loaded all the time - occupies lot of RAM

4. Updated WMI for compatibility with XP security Center - not really needed

5. Activation - need this headache be explained at all? ;)

So as you see above, the main features/highlights of the newer ones is quite useless. All other features is same as NAV2002. I'm happily running NAV2k2 on many client machines with no problems at all.
