P1R4T3 Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 Most of the programs that I install have switches, but some installers don't have any switch. I've read everything carefully, and installed InstallRite. It takes snapshot of the system before installing a program, and after the installation, it will create an installer which can be installed on any machine "silently". But the problem arises when I installed a program in the E:\ directory; InstallRite will create an installer but the installer will look for the drive E:\ So, when installing XP on a fresh hard disk, the drive is usually C:\ and RunOnce.cmd works perfectly for the antivirus, acrobat, office etc.. As for the installer made with InstallRite, the program cannot be installed as the installer is looking for the drive E:\I've made installers with InstallRite for the following programs:**** NFO viewerInternet Download AcceleratorTopStyleIs there another way of creating an installer or any good program that can do it?Has anybody dealt with that (creating installers) before?Any suggestion is welcomed.Thanks.
batman75 Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 I would only use Installrite and similar programs as a last resort.Switches and Autoit are the way to go in my opinion.
P1R4T3 Posted January 26, 2005 Author Posted January 26, 2005 The problem is that these program's installers don't have any switches. Thats why I've been using InstallRite, but it has taken a snapshot on the drive E:\ , when installing windows + the program on another computer, which uses the drive C:\ , I get an error message...Any idea?
Winnetou Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 I´ve startet with Installrite a few month ago. But this little Tool don´t have what I needed. So now I´m using MaSaI Repackager. You can make MST Files for MSI Packages and/or Repack other Software not using Wise Installer or Installshield (like Adobe Creative Suite) and make a complete new msi package out of a box.I´ve repacked Crative Suite (without Photoshop) as an msi pack and it work great. You can spread the new msi even on an Empirum Pro Server with the normal /qb or /qn :-)
Astalavista Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 very few dont have switches a major do.the ones u mentioned have switches. try this
Winnetou Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 *g* Ever tried to install the Creative Suite ??If you try to install the single parts (Illustrator, Photoshop .......) you need single activation keys.If you install the Suite you have one key for all parts. The Suite is a special Setup.exe created by Adobe with NO switches. There are enough discussions here about this topic I´ve read. And the simplest way is to repack it as an msi with all parts and all visual changes (like the Startup Splashscreen disabled) in it.IMHO the easiest and best way on this program.
