millhouse Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 I am having an ongoing problem with an IBM A30 laptop. The driver for the Intel PRO/100 VE network adapter keeps disappearing. Like, the driver stays on the hard drive, but I have to go into device manager about twice a month and reinstall the driver. This happens on a Win2K system. The same driver works fine for my other A30's with the same specs.Driver Version Build 49675 - Release Date 2002-11-08 Any ideas why this would be happening?
LiquidSage Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 copy the sys & dll files to \winnt\Driver Cache\i386and \winnt\system32\driverscopy inf to \winnt\infit also wouldn't hurt to r-click on the inf to do a manual install.i also put copies in the service pack folder if one exists in the winnt folder.i don't know why it 'forgets' that it has the files, but doing what i suggested has (at least for me) fixed this problem.if you have a ntfs partition, i suggest using Hard Link Magic so as to save space. HLM will make a reference to the files though it will seem like it is making copies of the files. Very nice for keeping back up copies and minimizing disk space usage for such loveable files like driver.cab(Kinda like using optimization for a cd build.)
