Automatically hide system tray icons

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I'm wondering if there's a way of changing the default setting for the system tray to "Always Hide" instead of "Hide when inactive" without any extra program running. I've googled just about every combination of "system tray hide icons automatic all" and so on... (just so I don't repeat my mistake with the shell question, sorry).

Thanks!

Right click on the start-toolbar, select "Properties" and in there, there is a botton you shall click on, and in there, you can choose which tray icon's that must "Allways show" and "Always hide". ;)

I know how to configure the icons once they're there already.

I'm wondering about the default value that icons are assigned when Windows is given a new tray icon to deal with. By default it sets the hiding scheme to "Hide when inactive" and I would like it to be "Always Hide".

Thanks for the reply though.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer but I'm hoping that the person who does know can answer my question too.

How do you completely remove icons from the system tray. For some applications you can't run the program without the icon being there. Surely there is something somewhere in the registry that you can bodge? I like to see what's in the tray but I don't like to see icons that have no relevance, ie a Pinnacle TV remote.
