Installing winxp on SATA HDD

Hi all, I've been lurkin on here for a while and used alot of your solutions to good out comes. I now have a problem with a PC I'm trying to set up.

I have an ASUS A8V board, with an AMD64 chip in it. I ordered an SATA hdd to install as the primary drive. Now for some reason windows will not recognise it as being there when installing the OS. I press F6 to install the additional drivers, winxp setup see's them but when it gets to installing the files, winxp setup just says that it cannot find any storage media to install on. I've tried tons of stuff to get it working but have come up with nothing.

Can anyone help on this matter?

I have almost the same setup as you, what I do is use

To integrate *ALL* SATA & RAID Drivers into Windows Setup. Just get the Masstorage pack and use method one. It May help.

I had a similar problem a while back but installing drivers was not the solution or even the issue. The problem was the motherboard simply refused to acknowledge the SATA drive was physically present. This is the solution I found which I reproduce here paraphrased as I don't have the source website anymore..

Sometimes you have to force the BIOS to look around and find a SATA drive by fooling it into thinking it needs to do this. After you have connected the SATA drive (don't change the jumper pins the default is the only one needed by most folks) go into your BIOS and as either the Secondary Master or the Primary Slave (whichever is free) or even the Secondary Slave set the selection to manual and select type 9 and if there are other BIOS settings below the one for Manually selecting a hard drive enable the ones not enabled. Next time you boot the BIOS will spend a good deal of time looking for this HDD you say is present and while doing so it will may miraculously find the SATA drive. After that, if you want to make it a boot drive you need to go back to the BIOS (NOW that it recognizes the thing) and place it into the boot order where you desire it to be. It will not be listed as a HDD as you normally see one but it will be there in the boot order list. I had to do this three times before my motherboard found the darn thing.

which controller are you plugging into? the via or the Promise? raid or not?
