redder Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 i dont know where else to post this, and i dont know if MSFN is hostile torwards linux but i wanted to ask you guys and see if you could help me. I want to switch from XP to SuSE Personal Edition 9.1 but i need the internet sharing connection feature, is there such a thing i can download and install on a version of linux that would be as easy to configure as XP is?
prathapml Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 No, we aren't hostile to linux. Most of the people on here simply ignore it, that's all. If you were looking for something as easy as ICS on WinXP is, then forget it. On the other hand, if you were looking for something more powerful than what XP offers, go for linux. Just use standard network routing along with a DHCP setup to get the other PC onto the internet connection (and a firewall too, ipchains in the kernel is extremely customizable and offers stateful firewalling). That applies to any full-featured distribution (not only SuSE Gmbh). There's no need to download and install anything to do the above. If you had to ask WHETHER it is possible, more likely than not you will not find it to be do-able....
