easyindian Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 Hello All,This is my first post. I used nLite to make 158MB Windows XP installation CD for 324 PCs I installed for our customer. But I wanted to make a CD of my own with tweaks, and fully customized installation screen. I have read through almost all of the forum topics to make my dream come true. You guys have done a wonderful job. But I would like to tell you, what happened when i tried the tricks.1. A custom installation screen that works only during an upgrade using WINNT32.EXE. During DOS based setup, it says, WINNTBBU.DLL was not copied correctly. I say skip, but the background becomes, black during GUI installation. I have the following files in my i386 folder - WINNT32A.DLL, WINNT32U.DLL, WINNTBBA.DLL, WINNTBBU.DLL. I edited WINNTBBU.DLL. I also tried making it *.DL_ file using 'makecab' but no use. Anyone could help?2. I tried running applications from CD using the method described in this forum, but it is continuously giving me 'file not found'. I think it is not checking my CD drive.3. I tried using winnt.sif. I used microsoft's reference file from System Manager folder and added all the entries in the components section, What i have found is the installation using all the sections but none mentioned in Components section. It even installed the games that I set to Off4. I am confused of the GuiRunOnce section. Where in CD should I place the batch file i put under this section.5. Could anyone give us a complete information of HIVEDEF.INF. Its not userfriendly, but i think its more appropriate compared to batch file based reg tweaks as it let me disable services during setup.6. I have found many people successful with unattended and customized Windows. Can any of you, put together all these things in to a single thread and make a clean and easy tutorial for the DUMPs?Thanks you all for the Brainshare you do. Forgive my english :-)Salute!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Software Box says "Requires Windows'98 or Better", I installed Linux!
easyindian Posted January 3, 2005 Author Posted January 3, 2005 Well, the best way to trim the installation source and tweak the registry:make two copy of i386 folder. one folder tweak and trim with nLite. Use WinMerge from Sourceforge to find the difference between the before and after INF files. That will let you learn which feature controls the final system configuration in HIVEDEF.INF and other INF files. Also you can trim down driver files safely. I am testing it currently for the system stability. Let you knowThanks for the inspiration | Thanks for the Friendship | Thanks for the Brainshare
