Hi there,

I was doing the unattended setup and I have my computer name setup as 'CPU' on a workgroup called 'NETWORK'. Upon installation in VMware with no other VM machines, I get an error that says 'DUPLICATE NAME EXISTS ON THE NETWORK'. I go and check the computer name, its a random computer name! For example, "KSJDJFIEWLKNDS". In my winnt.sif file, the computer name is specified. I've tried it with and without quotes but I get the same thing. Any suggestions?

Thanks

the real pc which I run VMWare on is named 'HOMER'. Yes, I use the Simpson's family as names. Makes things easier! :) anyway, I try to change the computer name inside VMWare and it won't let me. It gives me an error but I don't have it with me now. When I get home from work, i'll write the error down.

what is the name of your REAL pc ? w/c VM is mounted?

had the same problem before.

just change the name of your pc to something else.

common mistake.

Astalavista,

When I tried to change the computer name of the machine, I get this error:

The following error occurred validating the name "CPU".

You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network. Goto System in Control Panel to change the computer name and try again.

Any suggestions on this?

Here's my winnt.sif file on UserData:

[userData]

ProductID=Serial goes here

FullName="-"

OrgName="--"

ComputerName=CPU

I don't see anything wrong...or am I overlooking something?

Thank you for your help

Have you tried this:

winnt.sif

[UserData]
   ComputerName=*

EDIT: this could be related to your network setup for your Virtual Machine...

what does the * do?

all u need to do is change the name in your winnt.sif

and reinstall on vmware. if u encounter the same problem it just means

that something is wrong with vm

or most likely bec u use nlite didn't u

I've tried all of that and the same thing. I found in my i386 directory that there were several unattended.txt files. I'll let you know what comes about..

Astalavista.. I didn't use nlite on this. Good thinking though..I used it at work but not at home. Thanks
