Sidekicks Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 Hi there, I was doing the unattended setup and I have my computer name setup as 'CPU' on a workgroup called 'NETWORK'. Upon installation in VMware with no other VM machines, I get an error that says 'DUPLICATE NAME EXISTS ON THE NETWORK'. I go and check the computer name, its a random computer name! For example, "KSJDJFIEWLKNDS". In my winnt.sif file, the computer name is specified. I've tried it with and without quotes but I get the same thing. Any suggestions? Thanks
Astalavista Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 what is the name of your REAL pc ? w/c VM is mounted?had the same problem before. just change the name of your pc to something else.common mistake.
Sidekicks Posted January 3, 2005 Author Posted January 3, 2005 the real pc which I run VMWare on is named 'HOMER'. Yes, I use the Simpson's family as names. Makes things easier! anyway, I try to change the computer name inside VMWare and it won't let me. It gives me an error but I don't have it with me now. When I get home from work, i'll write the error down. Andy
