Stuck in a Circle of SATA Driver Slipstreaming

Recommended Posts

I just can't get this to work. I've followed every help page, I've gotten all the DriverPacks, installed those, but then when you click on the "overview" of how to use it all, it says this method won't work for installing SATA and bypassing the F6 thing. Go to greenmachines page ...etc. So do these driver packs work for SATA or not?

So I've tried everything I can find - I have a fully functional SP2 disk with all this stuff slipstreamed on it, it loads everything known to man during the text setup, then it just says " Windows cannot find any had disks attached...etc" And then I have no choice but to quit setup.

And all this because I don't have a floppy! How frustrating is this?

I've tried it with the HD plugged into each of the 4 spots available

mobo = Asus P4C800 - E - Deluxe

Thanks in Advance!!

u know this will probably p*** u off.

i hv the same motherboard i hv two seagate 160 sata drives.

i just pop my xp dvd in and no problem.

a little hint the sata is controlled with a intel chip, xp pro comes

with those drivers already.

xp installs normally.

- without bashrats driver pack

- without greenmachines guide

basically, The only thing i had done to my xp dvd is slipstreamed sp2, installed all the

hot fixes and patches. :P

pls check that u hv the latest bios, and check your settings. even at default

my drives install ok as well.

are u also using raid?

Hi Bâshrat....on this page : http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/drivers.htm

It says:

"For those who have a SATA/Raid setup, you may want to {Greenmachine's} page as the method outlined below cannot load your Hard drive controller drivers during Setup, nor does F6 work during an unattended installation."

Alta: It did turn out to be a BIOS deal. It was set to use RAID, but I am not (just have 1 drive). Now that I turned all that "Fasttrack Controller - BIOS not installed" off, XP did finally see the drive in either of the RAID ports (Promise SATA378), but it still won't see the drive if its in the other 2. (The Intel ones, I guess).

So my slipstreamed disk did work, but I guess its the opposite of how yours did! I have no clue why! :)

Oh well, the method used in the guide can only be used for non-textmode drivers. (so drivers that are not required for the part where you select the harddisk, because the drivers are only loaded during the GUI part of setup, when you use that method).

That's why you have to use another method for MassStorage drivers:

1. the most used method at these forums: the method that's described on Greenmachine's pages (which is currently used in DriverPack MassStorage as well)

2. the TXTSETUP.OEM method. You can find more about this method in the thread with the same name.
