benners Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 The number on the Properties page is the PID number, this is derived from the product key. If you bought the computer from manufacturers like Dell or Gateway the product key on the sticker probably won't match the one used on your PC. These companies sometimes use System Locked Pre-installation (SLP) this activates by checking the BIOS for specific information, thus giving the appearance that activation is not required, everytime you logon SLP checks the bios for the info and if it has logs on.The number on the sticker is just proof that you have a legally licensed version.
