How to create a subdomain

I just don't get it.

I have a www.company.com/exchange site that is working.

All i want to do is add the ability for users to go to http://mail.company.com and that's it.

I know I have to create a subdomain to do that - but can't find HOW.

can anyone help?

sometimes it's right in front of you and you are just too preoccupied to see it.

I must have seen that site 10 times and didn't notice the answer was there.
