Aeron Posted January 4, 2005 Author Posted January 4, 2005 Enjoy your win98se Personally, I'm more on the side of XP, but as you said.... everybody has their own favourites. And we at msfn do not flame over XP/98se, lol. Just use whatever keeps you happy.Oh, and do you play UT2004 a lot?Wanna death-match with us? (my gaming companions, I mean) Tokara Forest is a lot of fun, I think. As far as I'm concerned, I do read the whole post before replying to it (whole thread, most of the time). And most of the time, I too read and experiment before posting! Yup, lot of similarities between many of us. There are some other sites on the net though, which are mostly frequented by kids (and these kids have nothing better to do than flame and give useless answers). Thankfully, MSFN is far more mature. And were you looking for women techies? lol.... might be a long time before you run into one. Not many women go online, and even fewer of them frequent forums.Hey, about the UK flag.... I don't think anything can be done about it. Its a mod (modification/hack) to the Invision forum software, not under our control. Also, the list of countries which is already there is long enough. If more flags had to be manually added in, we'll end up with a drop-down list with thousands of region-names to choose from! And that won't be nice at all! Well, if you don't want the country flag, just choose "Not Specified" for country, and it won't be displayed anymore.Have fun!I shall, and tis nice to have intelligent conversations.Oh I am an Ut2k4 addict and actually I am not bad at all.. I am also a skinner..My avatar is a mutual work between myself another skinner, in the states..quite a task putting my idea into form, with me guiding the whole thing details etc...and turn out exactly how I envisioned it..I kept that one for me, does not go into the world..This skinner has done several dynamic skins for UT...I learned skinning from after I got PhotoShop 7, and now am skinning myself...a pair of Hellion twins that will be released soon, which at least my mentor says are great....allot of work went into them..and they're pretty cool if I do say so myself..frustrating work at times to produce a decent skin..but they came out bloody good.. when I am done the voice-pack, they will be put up on HQ..twas a challenge for sure..But aye I play UT..The only problem I found when I first started was the bullies online, when your first learning and they just instead of trying to teach you a bit, to expand the UT community..just mercilessly kill you right after you spawn and call you names..you learn nothing nor even get to play what fun is that..Turned me off to online gaming, and even though now I am pretty good I think..with all the practise and learning combos ect.. that now I play bloody decent game. yet after those negative online experiences.. I haven't gone back online either..aye womyn techies and womyn UT players that are good..Oh the shock of it.. lolol.......A DM huh, maybe..however now you might not want to, not that I whoop arse, but I imagine I could hold my own.... but a womon..the thought of it...ummm the Welsh humour again...Tokara forest is fun..aye..So is Morpheus, I like the low grav..leaping between buildings, shooting and turning around in mid air has its own challenge.. its almost like the old Plunge..But aye Tokara forest is fun.and I do prefer the more nature ones....Sorry now there I ran on, but as I said.. UT addict here..unfortunaltely as you said many sites... like UT ones are frequented by kids, and flames and useless answers, twas obvious they were. But at the Atari forum itself I would expect better..Aye.. I too read whole posts and the whole thread also, to see what its about before I post also..yup allot of similarities, and now I hope that I revealed my secret, that I get treated the same.It does threaten some blokes for some reason..That a womon could know as much maybe about a computer as they..As for was I looking for womyn techies, and it might be a long time before I run into one, well....surprise.. was just kinda slyly trying to see if I was the only one here..if you read my reply to solider1st...some blokes resent it, and either close down, or get all sarcastic..which I hope doesn't happen..Usually I keep my identity private, but that remark about just doing dishes, I couldn't resist a comeback.. I had to tease him back on that one..in fun and jest..of course..;-)MSFN so far is a pleasant surprise..maturity does lend to better answers ..and thus far its good to see..hope it continues..tis my last long post honest..like I said I don't usually say much, but the decent response deserved a reply.I was just teasing a bit about the flag, its a inside joke really..Most Welsh would have got the joke about flying the UK flag..I have a dry sense of humour...I know the option allows that... if someone clicks on my name to see profile I did put location Wales so they know..so no problem..I understand the technicalities involved, was just being me, tis all.. thanks for the nice welcome..mate..
Aeron Posted January 4, 2005 Author Posted January 4, 2005 @Aeron - You are a rare breed. Glad to know there are women out there who share the same passions as many of us.As far as the XP/98SE argument... If you are comfortable with 98SE and it works well for you then I see no need for you to upgrade. I happen to love XP and believe it's one of the greatest OSes of all time (on the personal PC side) I have worked in small and large corporate offices and Windows XP makes everything so much easier. I really love Windows Server 2003 too. It's such a beautiful piece of work. I was in your boat when 95 went to 98. I absolutely refused to upgrade. I believe I was afraid of the change. You certainly don't have to take me up on this, but I challenge you to tackle Windows XP one last time. Go into it with an open mind. You might find some surprises.Later!Aye un4given1 I am a rare breed so people who know me say, and that's few I am a loner really. and aye I do have a passion for 'puters..But I am a Windows 98SE techie, so I am comfortable..AS for the XP/98SE argument none for me..love 98SE and nothing could make me change that, yet I pay respect for others opinions and likes also.. till it doesn't serve my purpose anymore I am loyal if nothing else.AS for your challenge, I am a Sagittarian, I thrive on challenges..and as far as open minds.. mine couldn't be more open. Nor do I fear change oh contrare, I am the oppsosite..yet I am also a firm believer if its not broke don't try to fix it..improve on it aye..and if you love something don't throw it away just because the majority might say its out of date..Its not just the OS and that fact that they haven't worked all the bugs or compatibility issues out... I read and research allot.. tis my thing. One of the things I don't like is the security issues and privacy ones that stand much in Q.... the way Microsoft has made XP..your an open book to Microsoft itself..that I don't like..aye a controversial subject with many articles, on both ends of the scale...Yet the evidence seems more in favour the side I take on it myself, but as said I respect all personal choices on OS as I do everything in life.Windows 98SE you can shut out that and block all the security holes, if you know what your doing..But XP is to much in the pocket of Bill Gates, and so its not just a personal preference to me, its a integrity one..I want a OS that's in my control, alone, not in Microsoft's pocket..Isn't that the real reason to be honest, logically why 98SE was put 'out to pasture' so to speak, Microsoft couldn't control it..anymore..So XP might be fancy and I like its interface, and maybe could get used to it, I have a good machine and could get allot more out of it with XP.But the part of me that refuses to have my security and privacy in question, stands strong, so its not just that I prefer and love 98SE, there are other far reaching reason I have..But thanks for the nice reply, and the friendly challenge..Have a good day mate
soldier1st Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 well if more women were to be techies i would be shocked, most women here are not techies, xps interface does get boring afterawhile but you can change it,the 98 interface doesen't get boring, simple and easy to use
prathapml Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 @soldier1stOn that point, I say w98 is more boring than anything possibly could be. Which is why its favoured in some work environments - its so dull that you eventually find your work to be more interesting!@AeronAh, nice to see that its not just men all over! I doubt women are resented here, they make for a refreshing change. We won't feel threatened, probably feel happy. In fact, there do exist many female members as well, on this board. Its just that they probably stay quiet, away from all the heat and dust that we generate, lol.Hey, talking about those players online who kill you immediately on spawning... I personally found that training by yourself (in "Instant Action" mode) with the bots is good practice. I normally pick a map, have 11 bots to compete, and slowly raise the skill level of the bots. When you're able to win the match against the bots at "Inhuman" skill level, you know that you're ready to play that map online. I don't know why I somehow dis-liked the SinglePlayer missions. But other than multi-player death-match, Onslaght and Assault modes are nice as well.
soldier1st Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 i don't play utnot much of a gamer these daysprathapml i was stating my option about the windows 98 interfacetoo me it's good but to others nobody knows
